Marazion Walk, Saturday 21st August
Copy of our press release!
The weather didn't look too inviting as some hardy walkers stepped on the Cornwall Disabled Coach at Truro, to take them to their chosen venue for a charity walk around Marazion! However, with fourteen miles under their boots and nine pubs later, no-one seemed to care!
Walkers, mainly from the Truro Hash House Harriers who are always supportive of the Cornwall Disabled Association, set themselves the goal of returning to the Godolphin Arms, Marazion by 6.30pm. Presumably because the scenery was so stunning en-route Dave Cooper, the CDA coach driver was requested for the final pick-up at 8pm!
Some of the route followed along St. Michaels Way, but not wanting to make it too easy the organisers Diane Tyas and Clare Greenwood, who had prepared the route in advance, decided to put in some detours. Having added to the mileage they relented and made sure that participants got ample rest stops, which coincidentally turned out to be Public Houses.
Said Diane Tyas, Trustee and previously Chief Executive of the Cornwall Disabled Association, " I have had wonderful feedback about the day and people have already been giving me ideas on what to add into the mix for next year! I am delighted that everything went so well!"
Clare Greenwood, fundraiser for Cornwall Disabled, also reiterated her delight that even the rain hadn't diminished the day! "We are definitely planning to hold this event again and hope that we can encourage people from far and wide to join us in next years event! At the current time we have raised about £300 and we expect that we can do even better next year!"
All monies raised will go to the "Freedom on Wheels" project with an aim to fund a new specially adapted coach for The Cornwall Disabled Association. At the current time the association offers excursions, holidays and coach hire, all at subsidised rates, for anyone in Cornwall with access issues. As the association insists, the ability to get out and engage in society is essential to the health and wellbeing of their users.
Diane and Clare would like to express their sincere thanks to Dominick Penrose, the Chair of Trustees who is always on hand to help them, this time with the lunch halt and to all the landlords who were so welcoming and supportive - The Godolphin Arms, The Kings Arms and The Fire Engine at Marazion, The White Hart, Ludvan and The Old Inn, Lower Quarters, Ludgvan, The Star Inn at Crowlas, The Crown Inn, Goldsithney, The Trevelyn Arms, Goldsithney and The Victoria Inn at Perranuthnoe.

January 2010
With the New Year comes a renewed vigour to raise funds for our new small coach!
Charlie Penrose is training long and hard for the London Marathon and we are very pleased that he agreed to run this on behalf of Cornwall Disabled Association. He is very good at baking cakes, so if there is an event you would like to organise around eating cakes, I am sure we can oblige!
Please let as many people as possible know that they can donate directly to him...no excuses, even if they can't attend any of the fundraisers! Simply go into www.virginmoneygiving.com On the front page you will see "sponsor a friend". Key in Charlie Penrose and he is first up on the list. You can then donate online! However, we are always happy to receive cheques in the office!
We are returning by popular request to the Sefton Hotel in Babbacombe in May, see our holiday page, as we know this hotel can provide the facilities and holiday arrangements that we require!
Our spring excursion dates are also up now, but don't forget you can always hire the coach out yourselves for any private trips!
Fundraising for our new small coach continues as ever and we were extremely delighted to receive the very kind donation of £1100 from Ismay Rogers and her sister Wendy, who have kindly been arranging car boot sales..come what may! Our sincere thanks go to them for their time and commitment and very welcome donation!
Our quiz at the Rising Sun continues each second Monday of the month, please let all your friends know! It is only £1 per person entry in aid of FOW.
Thanks for your continued support of Cornwall Disabled Association!
